First Workout, a Solar Eclipse, and a Sky Full of Stars
An Asian noodle dish, my first workout in years, the first solar eclipse since '99, and the Perseids overhead.
Hi hi everyone!
This one will probably be even shorter than last week's post. Even though I said the same thing last time. It's not intentional — well, actually, it is. Since I want to separate the food from my personal thoughts, but sadly still haven't gotten around to actually implementing that, this one will be deliberately shorter — I don't want it running long.
So what happened? My first workout in years, the first solar eclipse since '99, the Perseid meteor shower, and my sister and her husband visiting us over the weekend.
Food
Asian line
Last week I mentioned there hadn't been any Asian food for a while, so I put one together this time.
Chicken, onion, soy noodles
An extremely simple little dish. I'm getting better at making these on my own — meaning I don't look up a recipe, I just put it together with common sense, and they keep improving. What was in it? Onion, garlic, julienned carrot, diced chicken breast, ham, soy sauce, a little mirin, and noodles. I bought the noodles at Lidl, some special Asian type that was already pre-cooked. Not bad. It was very quick, and ultra tasty too. 10/10, and that takes care of the week's Asian quota.
Workout line
My first workout in years. I did the protein source proper justice.
Chicken + rice
I kicked off the week's first workout with a bit of a protein source. Roughly 250 grams, meaning two chicken breast fillets, rice (lots of it), two eggs, one sweet potato, one tomato, one cucumber. It was divine. And they say healthy food isn't tasty... like hell it isn't. Quite the opposite!
Italian line
Honestly I'm not sure this counts as Italian food, but it's the closest thing to it 😀
Beef pasta
Extremely simple: onion, garlic, ground beef, seasonings (oregano, basil, salt, pepper, paprika), then I poured in tomato sauce, and cream at the end. That's it. Simple and tasty, though I ended up regretting not adding something else — it was really missing some vegetable, or something, I don't even know what. I couldn't put my finger on it, but it turned out pretty good anyway.
Thoughts
There was a solar eclipse this week. That's interesting because the previous one was in 1999, when I was 8 years old. I vaguely remember it, but this was the first as an adult — and probably the last, since the next one visible from Hungary will be in 2081. Well, who knows if I'll live to see it. It'd be nice, but I doubt it :D
On top of that, my wife and I went out that same night to watch the Perseid meteor shower. It was wonderful. I love the stars and the night sky. The way the Milky Way emerges, and those billions upon billions of stars laid out before you... it's simply breathtaking. Moments like that always make me think about what tiny specks of dust we are in this universe, and how our little everyday troubles pale in comparison. This is a love affair I've had since childhood — I adore the stars and outer space.
Over the weekend my sister and her husband visited. I didn't cook for them, we ordered instead: mostly gyros, shawarma, and kebab :D for variety's sake :D I wouldn't normally order this kind of thing, but I gave them a test run, and they're actually pretty tasty.
Summary
I'm proud that I've started working out, and I don't want to stop. Maybe not at 200% — since I still need to be careful with myself after the surgery — but I want 1-2 sessions a week to get back into the rhythm. Before this, I think I last trained about 8 years ago, and even then not at full effort. When was the last time properly? In my childhood, but back then seriously :D I'll go into that more sometime, if I remember :D
The meteor shower and the eclipse were wonderful. I can't put into words how much I love cosmology and everything connected to the stars and space. Plus my sister and her husband visited — they were the first guests in the new apartment.
All in all it was a pretty good week: eventful, and in the end I ate well too. Although I ate that beef pasta for three days straight, that's how big a batch I accidentally made xD
Be good, everyone!
